SAILING CAMPS

Sailing Camps are geared toward boys and girls ages 5 to 17. Sailing Camp is is an ideal introduction to our year-round program. A simple swim test is giving on the first day of each camp session and children are divided into groups by age. We hope that the sailors who learn to sail during the Sailing Camp will continue as members of the Sea Masters Academy Panama (SMAP) racing team. All summer camp attendees MUST be able to swim.

  • Shelter Bay Marina - Ft. Sherman, Colon

  • Ocean Reef Islands WSC - Panama City, Panama

Eligibility

Participants must:

  • Be between 5 and 17 years old of age

  • Complete a swim check administered the first day. 

  • The child must be able to comfortably swim 25 yards

  • Wear a USCG-approved personal flotation device (PFD), which we will provide, at all times while on the water.

Schedule

Typical schedule per session:

  • Monday to Friday

  • 8:00AM to 3:00PM

  • One or two-weeks sessions

  • Environmental lessons

Harbor Rookies

Ages: 5 - 7

About

This half-day sailing adventure is perfect for young sailors looking to have fun and learn the basics.  We'll keep things light and playful while introducing essential skills like steering, rigging, and sailing points. Get ready for exciting games and teamwork as you sail Optimist dinghies, starting as a crew of two and aiming to go solo by the end of the session!

​Snacks included, no lunch!

Helm Heroes

Ages: 7 - 12 I Beginner Optimist sailing

About

Beginner Opti will teach your young sailor how to properly rig and sail an Optimist dinghy.  Participants will learn rigging, points of sail, knot tying, capsize recovery, rules of the road, and proper body placement in the boat. After successful completion of this course, and demonstration of core skill competence to our coaches, sailors will become eligible for Optimist Level 2 and 3 class. Completion of the Harbor Rookies program is not a prerequisite for the Beginner Optimist class.​

Salty Sailors

Ages: 13 - 17  Teens double-handed sailing

Time

9am to 3pm | One-Week or Two-Week sessions

For

New sailors, sailors who have graduated from Opti’s, sailors who wish to improve their skills for racing, 

Price

Two-week: TBA

About

This program offers beginning and intermediate instruction in the two to three person RS QUEST and or one person ILCA boats.  Emphasis is on learning double-handed sailing skills, teamwork and enjoying the sport.RS QUBA or RS QUEST. 

Lunch is included!

 

​Daily fun sailing, practicing drills, learning racing rules and tactics whilst having fun on Panama Bay.

Requirements:

  • Prior sailing experience is NOT required

  • Able to swim 25 yards 

  • Come to class on time

  • Listen to the Coach

  • Have fun!

Summer Camp Essentials

Please be sure your youngs Sailor’s sea-bag is packed accordingly each day:

  • Quick-dry long sleeve camp shirt (1 shirt included with registration)

  • Reusable water bottle

  • Towel

  • Sunglasses and hat are recommended

  • Change of clothes

  • Water shoes

  • Sunscreen

  • Hat

  • Snack (highly recommended!)

  • Bathing suit

  • Positive attitude

  • Dry bag for gear
