Optimist Green Fleet

Description

Green Fleet is the gateway to the world of Opti racing. At a minimum, outside candidates that have not completed our Level 1 to 3, are expected to be knowledgeable about the rigging of their boat, should be able to demonstrate correct sail trim on all points of sail, and be comfortable sailing in close quarters with other boats in a wide range of conditions.

For confident sailors with the skills to race, our Optimist Green Fleet is the next step. In this fun and supportive environment, sailors will learn racing concepts like tactics, strategy, and boat handling.

Students will also have the opportunity to practice their skills in a variety of conditions, including light winds, strong winds, and currents.

Commitment

Green Fleet sailors are expected to attend all weekly practices and participation listed below. Sailors are encouraged to own an Optimist dinghy and the corresponding equipment, although, some Optimists are available for use through SMAP for sailors who require one. The program meets rain or shine. Sailors must commit to a full schedule to secure a spot and a boat.

Practice will run every Saturday on the dates below. Each practice will be 4-hours. Sailors are encouraged to bring a snack. Limited spots available. Sailors who are unable to commit to the full training schedule are welcome to join any practice at a cost of $100 per day.

Please before you sign up, make sure to read our Admissions Policy
