Keelboat Program

For those seeking sailing instruction on a steadier vessel, small keelboats could be the ideal choice. These boats feature a heavy keel beneath the hull that offsets the pressure from wind on the sails.

Intro To Keelboat Sailing course

Description

If you are looking to learn how to sail on a more stable platform, small keelboats might be the way to go for you. This type of boat has a weighted keel that counter-balances the force on the sails. This is a 2-day course, 16-hour total, after which we offer private lessons to further develop your sailing skills and confidence.

The number of private lessons depends on the student. You will learn the fundamental principles of safe, confident day sailing on a keelboat ranging from 18- to 27-feet in length in light to moderate winds. Please note that we require a minimum of two (2) students and a maximum of three (3) students per course. If you sign up alone, no worries. SMAP will match you with another student. If student signs-up alone, SMAP will find another students to join in for the lesson of the day.

The  hands-on training, will take place on the soon-to-arrive RS Venture Connect keelboat. This model is the self-righting keelboat version of the RS Venture, featuring a lifting bulb keel for exceptional stability and seaworthiness. With its spacious, self-draining cockpit, the RS Venture Connect is perfectly designed for unforgettable family adventures on the water.

The goal of this course is a thorough introduction to sailing and building a solid foundation for your sailing journey.
